Another wacky video aestetic that we couldn’t resist sharing with you
Guillaume Nery base jumping at Dean’s Blue Hole
Some of us here at Distil Ennui started their career as dive photographers and can relate entirely to the skill involved in underwater base jumping, the adrenalin produced and the stillness that washes through you in the process – a total trip.

Fairground Stop Motion
A wonderful time lapse view of a fairground at a stateside rodeo that makes us all feel like kids again.
Comme des Garcons ‘Wonderwood’ concept film
Video is secure in its footings of being the new way in which brands are now launching their collections and new products online. A great way to get a full bodied feel for what the product and brand stand for, where they come from and where they are wanting to go. A way for them to be perceived in a fuller light alongside music, visuals and sometimes script.
Brands now use video more than print it seems in a push towards digital campaigning – what a changing industry we have on our hands – like any business these days you have to keep moving and adapting to the ever changing current or the fact is you will eventually sink.
Levi’s Lefty Jean by Takahiro Kuraishi a hot new video
Levi’s Japan have released a video giving great insight into the brand direction and aesthetic of the highly anticipated Levi’s Left handed Jean collection from Kazuki Kuraishi (fragment design) and Takahiro Miyashita (Number(n)ine). The monochromatic video, directed by Azuma Makoto together with Takahiro Kuraishi, features an English narration of a poem about left handedness over dark layers of chaotic guitar reverbs and distortions. The collection is scheduled for release on the 29th of April, 2010. Take a look at the video here

Pay Creatives For Content
NOT BITCHING…. but ! We have had images printed in no less than 23 publications from around the world over the past eight weeks, with everything from interviews to publication of our ‘Particle Parkour’ series, ‘Old Havana’ and the recently completed ‘Taxi’ series. Whilst some of our publishers are absolute gems to work with, there are those that are a far cry from being professional or even polite towards theirs contributors.
Whilst we acknowledge the PR engine and what is involved in getting the word out. These bodies of work are huge production undertakings all of which place a huge burden on our finances, but we push on regardless because it is what we do. From these well known publications we have received no pdf layouts before going to print – despite our repeated requests; and, we cannot see one single copy lying around on any of our desks…. Surely we cannot be expected to accept being treated this way by publications that apart from a minor accreditation are simply not supporting their creatives.
Each of them are drawing a salary you can be sure of that, do you go and fill up at the service station and expect it for free – Hell No !
So why should photographers or any other creative for that matter be expected to continue allowing their work to be published for free without even a the slightest of respect offered towards the work – YES THEY DID CROP THEM – arhhhh !

PRADA – First Spring by Yang Fudong
Just loving this nine-minute, black and white video, titled “First Spring” and directed by young Chinese artist Yang Fudong, has become Prada’s spring/summer 2010 men’s wear advertising campaign.
On Monday, the video will debut on Prada’s and the New York Times’ Web sites, followed by other digital platforms in February. Starting next month, print ads with images from the video will also join the campaign.
The video was shot in Shanghai at the end of last year. Fudong filmed young men dressed in Prada, but also in traditional Eastern outfits. The film’s hyper-real look toys with distinctions between fantasy and reality, mixing in cinematic references, too.

Flight of 5,000
This film further explores our fascination with birds in flight – more from the series can be seen in the ‘Flight’ portfolio of www.DistilEnnui.com
With wing tips literally touching the lens this is a very up close and personal study of flight. This is an ongoing series with different shoots in the early stages of production right now.
