ABOUT
This is the blog of the Distil Ennui Studio which was founded in 2000 by London based artist Alexander James. Here you will find an insight into his work practice along with current goings on in the studio, including what is inspiring us in the world right now.
Alexander James’s works are always presented ‘as-shot’ without the use of post production either traditional or digital; seeing the process as cathartic rather than a critical one, this dedication to ‘in camera’ purity establishes the predominant focal point for my practice.
“I want to cross out the boundaries between sculpture, painting and photography; the more obscured they are, the more you will want to explore.” Alexander James
For over 20 years these works have been exhibited around the world with critical references such as ‘a minimalist Gregory Crewdson’ in the LA Times and as ‘like Man Ray meeting Jet Li’ in the New York Times.
DISTIL ENNUI: definition. to extract the essence and beauty of life to appease world weariness.
