In early 2024, our studio embarked on an ambitious project to design a sustainable lighting range using recycled PET and PLA plastic FDM filament. Choosing to work with recycled materials presented significant challenges—this material required extensive experimentation and perseverance. Opting for virgin plastic would have simplified the process, but it contradicted our ethos of reducing environmental impact by up-cycling single-use plastics wherever possible.

During this pivotal phase, Artem Hryshchenko joined us to help develop the ‘Bud’ and ‘Vortex’ lamp designs. His dedication and innovative spirit were instrumental in overcoming the numerous challenges we faced, including countless failed prints and design refinements. Together, we succeeded in bringing these stunning designs to life, exemplifying the harmony of sustainability and craftsmanship.
Recognising Artem’s unwavering commitment and talent, it was a natural decision to offer him the first of our 2025 artist residencies. This free program provides room, board, materials, and mentoring in our renowned Distil Ennui Studio, nestled in a remote mountain community. During his residency, Artem will further hone his skills, gaining hands-on experience with FDM and resin 3D printers, as well as 3D scanning technology.
We look forward to seeing how Artem’s journey with us will inspire the next chapter of sustainable design innovation.
